Peru advances high-integrity agricultural carbon markets with PAC support

PAC recently engaged with national stakeholders in Lima—including MIDAGRI, ADEX, and IICA—to advance the development of Peru’s National Agricultural Carbon Strategic Agenda (AENCA).

This milestone reflects a growing institutional alignment to enable high-integrity agricultural carbon markets and mobilize climate finance into rural economies.

Key developments

  • Progress in the development of Peru’s National Agricultural Carbon Strategic Agenda (AENCA)
  • Strengthened coordination between public institutions, private sector, and international partners
  • Identification of pathways to mobilize climate finance into agricultural value chains

Technical progress and policy alignment

Peru has also taken concrete steps to build the technical and regulatory foundations required for market readiness:

  • Publication of a methodological guide for GHG accounting in agricultural systems
  • Upcoming release of best practices guidelines for emission reduction in agriculture
  • Active participation in national climate governance platforms (CSARCC)
  • Alignment with international frameworks, including ICVCM and Article 6

Why this matters

With strong agroecological diversity and increasing institutional momentum, Peru is positioning itself as a potential regional leader in high-integrity agricultural carbon markets.

PAC’s role focuses on strengthening governance frameworks, building institutional capacity, and supporting the conditions needed to unlock private investment at scale.
